USS Rodolph (1864-1865, "Tinclad" # 48)

USS Rodolph, a 217-ton stern-wheel "tinclad" river gunboat, was built in 1863 at Cincinnati, Ohio. The Navy purchased her in December of that year, converted her to a gunboat and commissioned her in May 1864. Rodolph was assigned to the West Gulf Blockading Squadron, serving on Mobile Bay, Alabama, and its associated rivers for all but the first few months of her career. She took part in operations against Fort Morgan in August 1864 and an expedition up the Bon Secours River in September. On 1 April 1865, as she was towing a barge to assist in salvaging the sunken monitor USS Milwaukee, Rodolph was herself sunk when she struck a mine in the Blakely River.
