Constituted 5 September 1918 in the National Army as the 382d Infantry and assigned to the 96th Division Demobilized 30 November 1918 Reconstituted 24 June 1921 in the Organized Reserves as the 382d Infantry and assigned to the 96th Division (later redesignated as the 96th Infantry Division) Organized in December 1921 with Headquarters at Medford, Oregon Ordered into active military service 15 August 1942 and reorganized at Camp Adair, Oregon Inactivated 3 February 1946 at Camp Anza, California Activated 10 January 1947 in the Organized Reserves with Headquarters at Boise, Idaho (Organized Reserves redesignated 25 March 1948 as the Organized Reserve Corps; redesignated 9 July 1952 as the Army Reserve) Inactivated 1 March 1952 at Boise, Idaho, and relieved from assignment to the 96th Infantry Division Redesignated 17 October 1999 as the 382d Regiment and reorganized to consist of the 1st, 2d, and 3d Battalions, elements of the 75th Division (Training Support) 382d Regiment Honors Campaign Participation Credit World War II: Leyte (with arrowhead); Ryukyus Decorations Presidential Unit Citation (Army) for OKINAWA Philippine Presidential Unit Citation for 17 OCTOBER 1944 TO 4 JULY 1945 |

Johnston surrenders the Army of Tennessee to Sherman. 1937: The ancient Basque town of Guernica in northern Spain is bombed by German planes. 1952: Armistice negotiations are resumed. 1971: The U.S. command in Saigon announces that the U.S. force level in Vietnam is 281,400 men, the lowest since July 1966. 1972: President Nixon, despite the ongoing communist offensive, announces that another 20,000 U.S. troops will be withdrawn from Vietnam in May and June, reducing authorized troop strength to 49,000. |
