OPERATION DESERT FAREWELL was the general term, seldom used, for redeployment of Coalition forces following the Gulf war. Desert Calm was a both the phase immediately following the cessation of hostilities, and a widely-used popular nickname given to OPERATION DESERT FAREWELL.

1865: Confederate General Joseph Johnston officially surrenders his army to General William T. Sherman at Durham Station, North Carolina.
