The fear of war is worse than war itself. -- Seneca |
On December 23, 2003 soldiers of the 1st Infantry Division began Operation Devil Siphon. Operation Devil Siphon was aimed at curtailing the growing black market of fuel and propane and restoring Iraq's fuel infrastructure. This operation was carried out in conjunction with the Iraqi Police in the Ar Ramadi area.
The 1st Armored Division reported on February 9, 2004 that since the operation began, approximately 50,000 liters of benzine and 300 cylinders of propane had been confiscated. 50 suspects in connection to the black market had also been captured and turned over to the Iraqi Police. |
